Koala Killer (7/28/10)

The koala is one of the few mammals, other than primates, to have fingerprints.  Their fingerprints are very similar to human fingerprints.  According to an infamously dubious, free, online encyclopedia, human and koala fingerprints are so similar that “even with an electron microscope it can be quite difficult to distinguish between the two.”

Crime Scene Investigator: Here’s the gun from the murder scene.

Forensic Scientist: Thanks.  Once I just take a look at this gun with my trusty electron microscope, I will be able to pinpoint the killer immediately.

Looks in electron microscope.

Forensic Scientist: I see the prints.  It looks like I’ve narrowed it down to two suspects.  But it’s quite difficult to distinguish between the two, even with my electron microscope.

LATER:

Behind one-way glass, a witness looks at the two suspects in a police line-up.  A 46 year-old man with a history of violence and drug addiction …and…  a 25-pound koala with a pouch full of revenge.

Wikigina (5/20/10)

Here are the top three searches on Wikipedia in 2009: 1. Wiki, 2. The Beatles, 3. Michael Jackson.   My favorite however was #36: Vagina.

Dear 14 year old boy,

Wikipediaing “vagina” is not going to help you.  You should realize that the people who wrote the Wikipedia entry for “vagina” are in the same boat you are.

Your friend,

SY.com

EDIT:  I just read the list from 2008.  #36 was Vagina in 2009.  In 2008, Penis was #36.

Spooky.

I guess in 2008 the teenager had to figure out what he was working with before he could Wikipedia his counterpart.

Pranks (5/17/10)

George P. Burdell is a fictitious student that was enrolled at Georgia Tech in 1927.  After a prospective student, Ed Smith, received two applications to the college, he filled one of them out for a non-existent person named George P. Burdell.  Both Smith and Burdell were accepted.  Smith entered Burdell into all the same classes he was taking.  Smith did two sets of homework and tests under his name as well as Burdell’s.  Burdell received a bachelor’s degree, and eventually a master’s degree.  Later, his name was listed on the flight crew of a B-17 bomber in World War II, which made 12 missions over Europe.  At one point, George P. Burdell led the online poll for Time’s 2001 Person of the Year.  Eventually, the magazine took his name off the poll.   This guy has done a lot of other crazy stuff on top of all this.

Ed Smith, on the other hand, does not have a Wikipedia page.  Meaning, he was outlived by his imaginary friend.

A good indicator of your worth is whether you have a Wikipedia page or not when you die.
