Hysterical Strength (5/8/10)

Hysterical strength is the name given for that type of extreme strength that moms use to lift automobiles off their children.  But, I want to define hysterical as “very funny,” not as “uncontrollably emotional.”  If I was trapped under a car and my mom lifted it off of me, it would not be very funny.  It would be very, very terrifying.  I like to view hysterical strength as the strength a clown has when he lifts up a clown-car to save 15 fellow clowns.

Weak (4/11/10)

The word “muscle” comes from the the Latin mus (mouse) and cul (a diminutive suffix).  So a muscle was the little mouse that crawls beneath your skin when you flex.  Those old Romans must have been weak.  A mouse?  Really?  I call my guns the “caniscles,” from the Latin canis (dog).  Yeah, that’s right.  When I flex, a little dog runs up my arms under my skin…
