Etymologically “hamstring” comes from “ham” (the fat behind the knee) and “string” (a tendon). It’s all highly medical, science jargon. I can barely understand it.

Along with the Kodiak bear, the polar bear is the largest land predator. As we’ve seen in documentaries and at Hollywood award shows, polar bears are not handling global warming so well. Polar bears typically have up to 4 inches of blubber for insulation, so they start to overheat when temperatures rise above 50F (10C). Their insulation is so intense that they are basically invisible under infrared photography.
This fact has taught me two things.
1. Global warming isn’t killing polar bears. Polar bear obesity is killing polar bears. If they lost some weight they wouldn’t be so hot all the time.
2. Polar bears join my growing list of animals that would make perfect criminals.
The name “soap opera” derives from the original radio-broadcast serials that were sponsored by soap makers like Proctor & Gamble, or Colgate-Palmolive.
Another theory is that it comes from a time when bars of soap wore viking helmets and sang opera.
The image of a fat lady wearing a viking helmet and singing opera comes from Richard Wagner’s “The Ring of the Nibelung.”
The image of a fat lady watching soap operas comes from your mom.
Brown adipose tissue (aka brown fat) is one of two types of mammalian fat (the other is white fat). The primary function of brown fat is to generate body heat- it’s especially important in hibernating animals and newborns that don’t shiver. (I’m sure it’s even more helpful for hibernating newborn babies…) Compared to white fat, brown fat has a higher density of mitochondria, which contain iron and make it brown. Brown fat takes calories from white fat and burns it to generate heat, which could be a new weight loss strategy. Babies have more brown fat than adults, however. So, I suppose it would be a great weight loss strategy for fat babies. Just put them in cold water and they will look great in no time.
NOTE: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BABY IN COLD WATER
Or you could put the babies on the “baby food diet” as was previously discussed
