Seahorses and their relatives in the syngnathid group are the only animals in which the males can get pregnant.  However, these seahorses are crappy dads at times, as the male seahorses often abort and eat their offspring.  The decision to keep or abort the offspring appears to depend on how suitable the seahorse finds its female mate.  Conservative seahorses must have a heyday with all these pregnant male seahorses aborting their eggs.  This got me thinking, though.  How do we know these pregnant male seahorses aren’t just female seahorses?  Do the female seahorses have long hair or something?  No.  The female seahorses put the eggs into the male seahorses’ brood pouches.  Thank God I don’t have a brood pouch.
