In 1742, Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius created the Celsius temperature scale (mainly known as centigrade until 1948), which most of the world uses. Interestingly, the scientist designed it reversed— he set the boiling point of water at 0 degrees Celsius and the freezing point at 100 degrees. Just after Anders Celsius died in 1744, another Swedish scientist Carolus Linnaeus reversed it to the way we have it now. That’s straight ruthless. Swedish scientists are backstabbers. Tomorrow, we discuss Fahrenheit.
